11 TEEN BANDS HELP REINDEER KICK OFF NEW STATEWIDE COMPETITION

October 26, 2010

On Saturday, November 6th, Reindeer Records will launch THE OFF-RAMP, it’s new statewide competition for high school rock bands, with a public Showcase of bands who will take the unique six-month musical journey.

Eleven talented young bands from across the state will converge in Westbrook, in the professional state-of-the-art Westbrook Performing Arts Center. Each will have a chance to prove that they are “band enough to make it” with a 15-minute performance that will be reviewed by a panel of critics and be voted on by the audience. The roster of bands include:

ARMISTICE – Scarborough HS, Biddeford HS
BEWARE OF PEDESTRIANS – Gorham HS, Scarborough HS
CROSSED OUT – Gorham HS
IN PURSUIT – Windham HS
MIDNITE HAZE – Telstar Middle/HS
PHANTOM COMPANION – Falmouth HS, Waynflete
STUCK IN NEUTRAL – Boothbay Region HS
THE MODEST PROPOSAL – Freeport HS
THE RESISTANCE – Erskine Academy, Maine Central Institute, Warsaw Middle School
THE STUDY OF WUMBO – Scarborough HS, Kennebunk HS
WHERE’S ROBERT? – Mt. Ararat HS, Morse HS, Brunswick HS

“THE OFF-RAMP is The Rock-Off on steroids,” said Louis Philippe, who created and produced Reindeer’s flagship competition for 25 years. The president of Reindeer Group Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, said the new event incorporates the very best elements of The Rock-Off and adds a whole new educational dimension that make THE OFF-RAMP very unique and more challenging.

THE OFF-RAMP is part of Reindeer’s efforts to create a music industry-based curriculum for Maine’s Alternative Education students. The bands will face five industry tasks—the same five areas of study that will be included in the curriculum.

Reindeer Group Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) performing arts organization that is looking to raise about $145,000 for it’s RAMP program (Reindeer’s Alternative Music Program). THE OFF-RAMP is a small part of that fundraising and public awareness campaign.

THE OFF-RAMP: EXIT 26 LIVE SHOWCASE is an all-ages show open to the public. Bands will not only be evaluated by a panel of musicians, but will also be voted on by the audience—which will help bands earn points for their Marketability results. General Admission is $10.

Reindeer is excited to have as its Media Partner this year, keepMEcurrent.com (Current Publishing), which will soon launch its official OR26 website that will highlight all the participants and will provide regular updates and up-to-the-minute reports as the bands progress on their journey.
