What happens when seven plays collide to form an unforgettable spoof on life and social conflict?

The answer is ZAP, a wild and hilarious play that is being staged by Reindeer Theatre Company at Warren Memorial Library Auditorium in Westbrook for two weekends in June.

Written by Paul Fleischman, ZAP cleverly combines seven genres of theater into one fast-moving fun-packed show.  With the zap of a remote control, the audience “flips channels” from one play to another:  A 1916 English mystery, a 1965 Neil Simon-esque comedy, Shakespeare’s Richard III, an 1870 Russian drama, a 1950s avant-garde play, a 1934 Southern drama, and a modern Performance Art monologue.

ZAP is so uniquely written and totally entertaining,” said Louis Philippe who is directing the production with assistance from Kathleen Peterson and Student Director Brietta Hopkins.  “The characters and dialects are a delightful challenge to our diverse ensemble cast.”

Reindeer’s large cast includes young actors ages 8-17 from all around the area.  From WESTBROOK: Alex Cottrell, Matt Cottrell, Brock Leighton, Cassidy Leighton, Matthew Rairdon, Andrew Silver and Trevor York; GORHAM: Nicole Gile, Ian Hawkes and Brietta Hopkins; WINDHAM: Ben Myshrall and Rebecca Myshrall; SOUTH PORTLAND: Elliot Nye, Toby Nye and Katie Zema; PORTLAND: Brittany Burke, Chris Murphy and Rebecca Silver; CUMBERLAND: Samuel Devine and Colin Grove; and Emily Myshrall from SCARBOROUGH and Katie Harper from LIMERICK.

ZAP opens on Friday, June 22 and runs until Sunday, July 1.  Friday and Saturday shows are at 7 PM and Sundays at 2 PM.

Warren Memorial Library Auditorium is located at 479 Main St., Westbrook.

General Admission tickets are $10 for adults and only $5 for theatergoers under 18 and over 65.  For reservations and information, call Reindeer at 857-9002.
