The Project
The Project

THE PROJECT, an edgy punk-pop trio representing Greely HS and Cape Elizabeth HS, earned the title of Best Young Band in the State of Maine Sunday as Reindeer Records’ 23rd Annual Rock-Off competition came to a close for another year.   The band also won $1,000 along with recording studio time donated by Tonezone Studios of Scarborough.

The Finals kicked off with a showcase performance by CRASH THE END from Mt. Ararat HS, this year’s MaineToday.com Wildcard entry.  The Mother’s Day theme continued with crowd-pleasing performances from CAPITAL (Waynflete and Cape Elizabeth HS), POOR-JOHN (Brunswick HS), THE PROJECT, PUBLIC PLACE (Hebron Academy and Waynflete), and BETTER THAN (Gray-New Gloucester).

Rock-Off Hosts Dylan Martin and Kegan Zema, seniors from South Portland HS,  kept the show flowing, bringing on guest band PASSING LANE, winners of Rock-Off 22 from Deering HS, who delivered a great set of award-winning originals.

The entire event was captured on tape by the crew of Time Warner Cable’s popular show NO HIT VIDEOS which will be broadcasting interviews and performances in the near future.

The Annual Rock-Off Awards Presentation provided an opportunity to recognize many bands and individual musicians for outstanding efforts in various categories. [Complete list follows].

This was the second time in the competition for THE PROJECT, according to RO Producer Louis Philippe.  “Though they didn’t come in the top five last year, they obviously worked hard on developing their skills and getting their act together.  All three members are incredibly focused, passionate about playing and dedicated to their band,”  Philippe said, adding, “Plus they’re terrific kids.”

Band members include Hudson Eakin on bass/vocals, Kevin McCord on guitar/vocals and Ben Shumaker on drums/vocals.
