Five Florida high school rock bands are one show closer to winning $1,000 and the title of “Best Young Band in the State,” as FLARO10, Reindeer Records’ 10th Annual Florida Rock-Off competition heads into the Finals.

The top five bands were announced in alpha order and include: GOOD GRAEFF (Riverview HS, Sarasota), GOOD QUESTION (Cypress Lake HS, Fort Myers), SKANTLY PREPARED (St. Petersburg HS), SLANDER (East Lake HS, Tarpon Springs), and THOREAU (Gulf HS and River Ridge HS, New Port Richey).

Two Live Performance Showcases were held on Sunday, March 19th and Saturday, March 25th at Gasoline Alley Café in Clearwater, FLARO’s host venue for many years because of its reputation with all-ages bands. Each band’s live scores were combined with their scores for Original Material and Marketability, evaluated by separate panels of judges. The five finalists had the best overall totals.

“This year marks our 10th Anniversary and it really brought out a great cop of young musicians,” reported Rock-Off Producer and Reindeer President Louis Philippe.

“On one hand, it’s always disappointing to see so many excellent young bands depart from the journey and I certainly hope they build on the exposure and networking opportunities that FLARO provided. On the other hand, it’s exciting to look forward to what will undoubtedly be one of the best FLARO Finals ever.”

The Finals are slated for Sunday, April 23, 2 PM, again at Gasoline Alley (www.gas alleycafe.com), where the bands will be evaluated by a panel of local industry professionals, as well as audience ballots. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door, available from any participating band or by contacting Reindeer at 207/857-9002 or online at http://www.reindeergroup.org.
