“14 HS ROCK BANDS TO COMPETE IN
ANNUAL” STATEWIDE EVENT”

***** for immediate release *****

Fourteen young original rock bands from across Florida are fine-tuning their acts in hopes of becoming this year’s “Best Young Band in Florida,” as they prepare to compete in The 10th Annual Florida Rock-Off competition in Clearwater.

Reindeer Records, a Portland Maine-based independent record label that has produced the annual FLARO events since 1996, is once again offering a cash prize of $1,000 to the band that earns that title.

Producer Louis Philippe described FLARO as a “musical triathlon, much more in-depth than your average battle-of-the-bands.” Bands are judged by several panels of evaluators, from peers to industry reps, who rank each band in many categories for Original Material, Live Showcase Performance and Marketability.”

The event started as an opportunity for high school rock bands from the Tampa Bay area but in the past several years the boundaries of inclusion continued to grow to include the entire Central Florida region. This year, in celebration of it’s 10th anniversary, Reindeer opened up the competition to bands statewide.

“We’re always very excited to present this competition in Clearwater and see what young local bands from Florida are putting out as far as talent, material and image,” said Philippe who also heads up the label. “We’re also very thrilled that Gasoline Alley, a premier showcase venue known for its great sound system and support for local all-ages bands, will once again be our host venue.”

“FLARO is designed to benefit every band that participates, whether they win or not,” the Reindeer president stated. “It’s an excellent opportunity for any participating band to gain media exposure and plenty of networking opportunities.”

“Over the past decade, FLARO has given the spotlight to hundreds of musicians, many of whom are recognized for their abilities and achievements,” Philippe noted. “Every band is a success story to some extent, and many take their FLARO experience beyond the event and gain further recognition and success.”

The 14 bands who successfully completed the registration process will perform for the public in two all-ages shows at Gasoline Alley, 17928 US 19 N in Clearwater, on Sunday, March 19 and Saturday, March 25, both starting at 2 PM. The top five bands will advance to the Finals, set for Sunday, April 23.

The live showcase performance line-up is listed below. Each band gets 20 minutes of stage time to impress the panel of judges and the live audience. Advance tickets are $8 ($10 day of the show) and can be obtained through any participating band or by contact Reindeer at 207/857-9002 or events@reindeergroup.org
