“REINDEER PRESENTS TRIBUTE TO EDITH PIAF “

***** for immediate release *****

Reindeer Theatre Company will present the first of two summer musical revues, LA VIE EN ROSE, a tribute to Edith Piaf, the first weekend of August at Warren Memorial Library Auditorium in Westbrook.

LA VIE EN ROSE (also the title of one of Piaf’s many trademark songs) is an entertaining and enlightening multi-media concert presentation that recounts the life and career of France’s legendary chanteuse.

Louis Philippe, who helped create the show when it debuted in 1979 under the auspices of Le Centre D’Heritage at Bates College in Lewiston, will once again reprise his powerful interpretations of Piaf’s “hitlist,” including “Milord, L’Accordeoniste, La Goualante du Pauvre Jean, Hymne a L’amour, Non Je Ne Regrette Rien, La Vie En Rose and many more.

“Piaf was France’s version of Judy Garland and she lived, breathed and died a lifetime of manic ups and downs, decadence and loneliness, euphoria to emptiness,” said Louis Philippe.  “Through it all, she left a legacy—her gift of song—that wonderfully epitomizes her life and continues to touch audiences even today.”

Louis Philippe is a well-known performer in Portland, with numerous musical theater credits locally and in Florida.  He regularly entertains for nursing homes, senior groups and organizations throughout the state.  He currently serves as Music Director at St. Pius X Church in Portland in addition to directing the contemporary worship group “On A Wing And A Prayer” at St. Joseph’s Church, also in Portland.

Accompanying Philippe will be Terry Foster who has played in dance bands and show bands, taught piano, directed choirs and community choruses and served numerous churches over the years with his musical gift, from Kentucky to Maine.  He is USM Administrator and one of the founders of Senior College, and also teaches a performance class for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

LA VIE EN ROSE will be performed one weekend only: Friday, August 4, 7 PM, Saturday, August 5, 7 PM, and Sunday, August 6 at 2 PM, at Warren Memorial Library’s air-conditioned auditorium, 479 Main St., Westbrook.  All seats are $10.  For reservations, call 857-9002.
